A series of Spanish light destroyers, later reclassified as frigates. They were created on the basis of the French destroyers / light destroyers "Le Fier", designed before the Second World War and initially differed from their contemporaries by the absence of anti-submarine weapons. In total, from 1945 to 1965, nine ships of this type were built at the shipyards of the Basan company.

Ordered by law of 11/1/1936 mainly for filling SENC; in design, they were almost identical to the Almirante Antequera classes, differing only in the quadruple TT installation. Before the start of the Civil War, materials for both ships were only prepared, in September 1939, work was resumed, but on 1/26/1940 it was suspended due to the obvious obsolescence of the project. The construction of these destroyers was allowed again on 22/5/1943 and 24/1/1944, respectively, initially for the sale of this pair to Argentina, after the Argentines refused to purchase them in 1944, they were built for the Spanish Navy on the model of Almirante Antequera. They were completed only in the early fifties, being already archaic.

In July 1943, the destroyer project number 155 was developed, which became the basis for the future Oquendo. According to this project, the ship was armed with eight powerful guns, and as a power plant it had the latest French-designed turbines, which ensured a high speed. The fleet approved the project, but demanded a number of changes to it, as a result of which the Oquendo gradually became what we know it to be. The original project 155 remained on paper.

In the early 1940s, the command of the Spanish Navy was on fire with the idea of a "super destroyer", like the French Mogador or the Italian Capitan Romani. Several projects were developed, one of which received the number 142. It was a fast ship with a standard displacement of 2800 tons, with eight main guns and torpedo tubes onboard. This project was not implemented in metal, but later the developments on it were useful in the development of destroyers of the Oquendo type.

Another "super destroyer" project, developed in the early 1940s, numbered 148A. It had even larger dimensions than the 142 (standard displacement of about 3,000 tons, total displacement of over 4,000), and an exorbitant design speed of 42 knots. The torpedo tubes on this ship were also located side by side like the Mogador (although there was also a variant with a central location of the TA). It was also not implemented in metal.

The largest destroyer ever designed for the Spanish Navy. This project, number 135, was presented in the early 1940s and, more than all other projects, met the requirements of the military, which sounded something like "give us a Mogador, just to have yours." As the main caliber, the ship received some 140-mm guns of a special design by Ansaldo. The most interesting thing is that these guns were supposed to have an elevation angle of as much as seventy degrees, that is, in fact, they were planned to be universal.
